Car stolen after woman stops to offer aid to suspect

A woman had her car stolen after trying to be a Good Samaritan on a county road just southeast of Princeton.

At about 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, the woman stopped to help a stranger in the area of 317th Ave. NW and 120th St. NW (County Road 2) in Baldwin Township, south of the city of Princeton.Screen Shot 2014-05-30 at 6.34.16 AM

The suspect was lying on the shoulder of the road with a bike on top of him, prompting the woman to stop in an effort to help the suspect, Sherburne County Sheriff Joel Brott said. When the victim stopped to provide assistance, the suspect ran to the victim’s car and started to drive away.

The woman attempted to stop the suspect and was pushed from the moving car as the suspect fled, Brott said. The woman suffered minor injuries as a result of the struggle.

The suspect is a white male, early 20’s, black hair, 5 foot 8, between 160-180 pounds, Brott said. At the time of the incident he was wearing no shirt and black pants.

The stolen car is a 2001 Silver 2-door Pontiac Grand Am with a Minnesota license plate of XNE-531.

The Sherburne County Sheriff’s Department asks that anyone with information regarding this incident call the Sheriff’s Office at 763-765-3500, or Tri-County Crimestoppers at 1-800-255-1301. You can also text a tip to the Crimestoppers at 274637. Tips to Tri-County Crimestoppers remain anonymous, Brott said, and one can collect a reward for information leading to an arrest.

I would like to praise the Good Samaritan for having the courage to stop
and help a stranger after dark. I hope this event does not impact the
willingness of others to help people who are truly in a time of need.

I’m confident that the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Department will solve
this case. Please support local law enforcement in their efforts as they
    attempt to find the suspect.
