A marathon of battling weather conditions in Hinckley came to a close on Monday, June 2 when the Section 7AAA boys golf tournament turned into a one-day affair. The Princeton boys closed the season placing 11th while the two Andover squads swept the girls and boys titles.
After too many lightning delays eliminated Saturday’s Round 1 for the boys in the section, Brody Johnson led the Tigers with an 86 on the Grand National layout on Monday. Griffen Fitzgerald was next at 92, followed by Marshall Bies (95), Ben Pauly (97), Jared Seifert (109) and Clay Nelson (111).
The Andover boys held off Duluth East and Forest Lake by two strokes to earn the team berth to Class AAA State at Bunker Hills next week. Cambridge-Isanti’s Matt Swanson was section medalist with a four-under 68. More Mississippi 8 golfers advancing as individuals were North Branch’s John Bublotz and Regan Nelson.
• Bri Dorr led the Tiger girls with a 108 after opening with a nice 49 on the back before the lightning interruptions began on Saturday. Also shooting for the 11th-place Tiger girls were Megan Anderson (108), Kelsey Dorr (118) and Katie Hicks (120).
Andover’s Sierra Langlie was the 7AAA meet medalist with a two-day total of 147– finishing with a solid 70 on Monday– to lead the Huskies in the defense of their section championship. Cambridge-Isanti’s Jade Newman out of the Mississippi 8 qualified for State with a fourth-place 161.
