‘Staggering’ man hit by vehicle on Highway 169

A man walking on Highway 169 while allegedly under the influence of alcohol was injured Saturday, June 21, after being hit by a vehicle, according to the Minnesota State Patrol, which provided the following account. Eric R. Kimmons, 26, Onamia, was “staggering down the center line” at about 11:15 p.m. Highway 169, south of 250th Street, when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Thomas F. Merimonti, 74, of Aitkin. Merimonti, who was traveling northbound on Highway 169 in a 2010 Nissan Cube, swerved to avoid hitting Kimmons, but hit the pedestrian with his side mirror. Kimmons was transported to Fairview Northland Medical Center in Princeton with non-life-threatening injuries. Alcohol was detected in Kimmon’s system. The Milaca Fire Department assisted at the scene.
