Milaca area booming with activity

Pete Pedersen

Milaca has had a flurry of exciting activities and events throughout the month of June.  The Milaca Fines Arts Council’s Music in the Park has been going strong since the beginning of June with many more terrific acts coming up in July. Although the parade had to be rescheduled, it was an enormous success with most of the bands making an appearance on the new date. Most people in the community were happy to see the carnival back in Milaca, and the street dance and beer garden were very well attended and enjoyed. The first annual Amazing Race Northland Edition had 6 teams racing around the community and county to win big prizes. I can see this event growing in the years to come. I wanted to thank the Milaca Area Chamber of Commerce, the Milaca Fine Arts Council, and all other groups and individuals that have worked hard to provide our community with a summer of fun and new activities. Even though we had an event filled June, there is more to come in July.

The fifth annual Recfest Bluegrass festival will be happening July 25-27, and it looks to be bigger and better than ever. We already have concert goes making reservations for the festival that are coming from as far as Texas, Oregon, Wisconsin, Iowa, the Dakota’s, and even Ontario. I will be at Teal’s Market Wednesday, July 9 and Saturday, July 12 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. selling coupon books that get you a free admission to the festival as well has answering questions you may have about the Save the Band Shell fundraising, the Got Time volunteer group, and Recfest.  The savings start immediately after purchasing the coupon book with a free hot dog and soda provided by the Got Time volunteer group. Even if attending Recfest does not fit into your schedule, there is nearly $200 worth of savings in the coupon book provided by local businesses. I would like to thank all the businesses that contributed to the coupon book.

Recfest is not the only event in July. The Fourthof July fireworks in Pease, the 4th of July parade in Bock, Foreston Fun Days, and the Milaca Fly-In Breakfast are all yet to come. Please take some time to come talk to me on July 9th and 12th at Teal’s Market between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to learn more about what is going on in our wonderful community and how you can become one of the people that help make great things happen in this community.
