Arrest made after man barricades self in home with weapon

A Princeton Township man  is in custody after barricading himself in the home near downtown Princeton.

The Princeton Police Department received at 3:45 p.m. Friday a report of a violation of an order for protection, according to Sgt. Joe Backlund of the Princeton Police Department.

A woman told police that the man was in her residence. The man allegedly texted photos to the woman showing that he was in her home.

The Princeton Police Department, Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Department, Sherburne County Sherriff’s Department, State Patrol, and the Princeton Fire Department responded to the scene. They set up a perimeter of the house in the 200 block of Sixth Avenue South and evacuated some homes in the area.

Authorities were able to confirm that the man had a gun. At that point, Mille Lacs County’s Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) was called to the scene.

Authorities had made contact with the man by telephone, Backlund said. That contact was lost about 5:15 p.m. but reestablished about one and a half hours later.

The man eventually surrendered at about 7:20 p.m. He was taken into custody without incident.
