Little Falls sweeps Milaca VFW to end 2014 season

Milaca had a rough time on July 20 in the first round of the VFW playoffs. As the 14 seed in the 16-seed tournament, Milaca took on third-seeded Little Falls in a best-of-three series.

Little Falls only needed the first two games to dispatch with Milaca. Little Falls won 20-3 and 10-0, both in five innings to end the Milaca season.

In game one the third seed Little Falls took care of Milaca early and often. They jumped on Milaca pitching early by scoring nine runs in the first and seven more in the second and never looked back. Milaca did score three runs, but they could not slow down the Little Falls offense. Every batter for Little Falls had at least one hit and scored at least one run, many had several of each.

For Milaca Taylor Deshaw went 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored. Hunter Guzy had a double and scored one run. Milaca had five errors in the contest.

Errors again played a part in a 10-0 game two loss to Little Falls for Milaca.

Little Falls had a five-run fourth that helped push them to the win. Milaca had three errors, and allowed two more runs in the fifth inning to lose to the mercy rule.

Sam Larsen took the loss on the mound despite allowing only two earned runs and not walking a batter. He struck out four Little Falls hitters.

Milaca had four hits, two came from Nathan Hass. Calvin Manthie and Hunter Johnson each had a single a piece.

In their first season since reforming, the Milaca VFW team finished 8-22 under coach Craig Talberg.
