Chilah Brown and Rob Passons, both of Isle, are squaring off in a primary election for the spot of the DFL ticket for the District 15 senate seat.
Brown is the endorsed DFL candidate in District 15. She claims to be the first member of the Mille Lacs Band to be endorsed and run for Senate. Her mother is Ojibwe and a member of the Mille Lacs Band. Her father is a Chickasaw Indian. She was born and raised in Fittstown, Oklahoma. She is a student at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and is working on her Masters degree in Tribal Administration and Governance, and also work fulls time for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe as a legislative aid for her district representative.
Passons is a native of Mahtomedi and resides in Isle. He is a former reporter with the Mille Lacs Messenger in Isle.
Editor’s note: Neither Brown or Passons returned candidate questions mailed to them at the address they used when filing for office with the Minnesota Secretary of State’s office. Additional attempts were made to contact the candidates as deadlines to turn in questionnaires approached. We did have correspondence with Brown the day questionnaires were due and a new questionnaire was sent by email at her request. However, it was not returned.
