County announces economic relief, tourism grants

Through legislation passed earlier this year, Mille Lacs County has initiated the Mille Lacs Lake Area Economic Relief Loan Program, in partnership with the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).
The purpose of the program is to assist businesses adversely affected by the decline in walleye fishing on Mille Lacs Lake, and to stimulate private investment and economic relief by providing financing to new and existing businesses in the Mille Lacs Lake area. The program seeks to enhance the ability of area businesses to create and preserve jobs, increase property tax revenue, and promote continued community development.
Mille Lacs County, through the same legislation, has also developed a tourism grant program. The purpose of this program is to promote the Mille Lacs Lake area as a desirable destination and enhance the tourism experience, and to increase the number of visitors and overnight stays in the Mille Lacs Lake area.
The grant funds are intended to be used for advertising, marketing, and innovative promotional initiatives for events and/or businesses in the Mille Lacs Lake area, by reaching new markets.
The Mille Lacs County Administrative Services Office will review the applications received for both programs, and will make recommendations to the Mille Lacs County Board regarding which applicants will receive funding. These programs will expire on June 30, 2017.
Anyone interested in applying for the tourism grant program or the economic Rrelief loan program can find complete details and application forms on the Mille Lacs County website at www.co.mille-lacs.mn.us.
