Holiday dinner theatre coming to Pease ballroom

Last year’s holiday dinner theatre production from Play Inc, “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”.

Pease – For the fourth holiday season in a row, Northern Lights Ballroom and Banquet Center will be hosting dinner theater performances in collaboration with Cambridge-based community theater company Play Inc.
This year’s production is “The Gift of the Magi,” directed by Emily Randa, with performances on Dec. 9, 10 and 11. For the Dec. 9 and 10 shows, dinner is at 6 p.m. and the play is at 7. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. For the Dec. 11 show, doors open at 11:30 a.m., dinner is at noon and the play starts at 1 p.m. Reservations, which include a buffet dinner provided by Northern Lights as well as the play performance, are $34.95 per person.
“The Gift of the Magi” is adapted from the short story of the same name by O. Henry, which tells the tale of a married couple who trade their most valued possessions to buy gifts for each other. Although both husband and wife get rid of something dear to them, they ultimately learn a lesson about their love for one another.
“‘The Gift of the Magi’ is a story about wanting to honor the person you love, and that you shouldn’t be surprised that they would do the same for you,” Randa said.
The play marks Randa’s first production directing for Play Inc.
“I’m looking forward to helping people celebrate the season with their friends and family,” she said.
Randa said this production will be more lighthearted than Henry’s original story.
“The story by O. Henry has always struck me as incredibly sad and tragic,” Randa said, “but the play does a nice job of communicating when something is done in love that that gift will be deeply and wonderfully felt. The ending is happy and uplifting.”
The play has a cast of 12. The cast members are from Cloverdale, Mora, Isanti and Braham, and they range in age from 5 to 45. Each show will be opened by the Mistletones, Play Inc’s own caroling group.
