Three finalists interviewed for Milaca manager post

The three finalists for Milaca’s city manager job visited the community on Wednesday, March 15 where they participated in two interviews and took a guided tour of the city.

Two of the finalists have connections to Aitkin. The other is described by Milaca Mayor Pete Pedersen as a rising star in city administration circles.

The finalists are: Kathy George, Tammy Lou Pfaff, and Luke Welle.

Kathy George worked 19 years for the City of Aitkin, the last 11 as city clerk. She moved from Aitkin to Lindstrom in 2014 after remarrying. She is currently employed as the deputy clerk in Lindstrom.

Tammy Lou Pfaff replaced George in Aitkin in 2014 and remains employed as Aitkin’s city clerk.

Luke Welle comes from the Bemidji area. He is a 2011 graduate of Bemidji State University where he majored in political science. He went on to earn a Master’s degree in public administration from the University of North Dakota and graduated in Spring 2016. Welle worked for the Headwaters Regional Development Commission in Bemidji as a planning technician. He was also a research assistant for the Center for Urban and Regional Affairs at the University of Minnesota.

Pedersen told the candidates after their interviews that a job offer could come to one of the three next week (March 20-24) after background and reference checks are conducted.
