Milaca – The Summer Market at Milaca Township Hall will welcome crafters, gardeners and junk hunters of all stripes for three days of buying and selling, July 13-15.
The event is being hosted by Local Farmhouse, the home decor brand project of Becca Dietz and Karlee Visser.
Dietz and Visser started Local Farmhouse to sell their antique and homemade products, often refurbished or repurposed from items they find hunting through thrift stores and junk sales.
“We’ve gone out junk-hunting and thrifting … and created our own pieces,” Visser said.
Dietz and Visser have been working together for about a year; they were each finding and crafting things separately for several years.
The items Dietz and Visser have for sale include tables, chairs, outdoor furniture, flowers, old trunks and more.
“It’s just a lot of odds and ends,” Visser said.
Dietz and Visser’s Local Farmhouse pieces have a keepsake quality that items purchased from a conventional store might not possess. They credit their process of finding things and fixing them up.“It creates unique pieces that no one else will be able to recreate,” Visser said.
Dietz and Visser’s long-term goal is to open their own store at which to sell their products.
“We would like to eventually create our own business,” Visser said.
The Summer Market at Milaca Township Hall is the second sale event Dietz and Visser are hosting with their Local Farmhouse goods.
“Our first one that we had was last December and it was a way bigger success than we ever imagined,” Dietz said.
The Summer Market goes beyond Dietz and Visser’s collaboration. The pair have signed up several other local craftspeople to participate as well, who will sell their own wares alongside Local Farmhouse. Dietz and Visser are still willing to sign up a few more vendors up for the market. Vendors pay a flat fee instead of a percentage, which Dietz and Visser said keeps the cost of participating lower.
Local Farmhouse’s Summer Market takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 13-15 at Milaca Township Hall, at 14511 170th St., Milaca. For more information on Local Farmhouse, visit its Facebook page at or call 320-362-0766.
