Sheriff: Highway 23 crashes down 44 percent

Mille Lacs County Sheriff Brent C. Lindgren is pleased to announce that central Minnesota Law Enforcement partners have been conducting extra patrol efforts with the goal of reducing fatal crashes in these areas including a large presence on Highway 23 in both counties. Involved in the enforcement project have been Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office, Foley Police Department, Milaca Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol. Halfway through the year, these agencies have made a total of 685 traffic stops and reduced crashes by 44 percent since this time last year.
Injury crashes during this period have dropped 55 percent including no serious injuries or fatal crashes. The multi-agency saturations as well as frequent additional patrol efforts will be continued in 2017 focusing on reducing fatal crashes.
