Former assistant county attorney chambered in Mille Lacs County
Milaca – A fourth district court judge will be chambered in Mille Lacs County District Court in Milaca.
The new judge will not be a stranger to Mille Lacs County courtrooms.
Governor Mark Dayton on Friday, Aug. 18 appointed Matthew M. Quinn to fill a district court vacancy in Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District.
Stearns County District Court Judge Vicki E. Landwehr, chambered in St. Cloud, recently retired. Her seat was transferred to Milaca, with a new seat being established in St. Cloud. Shan C. Wang was named to the new St. Cloud position.
In Mille Lacs County District Court, Quinn will be joining Assistant Chief Judge Sarah E. Hennesy, Judge Steven A. Anderson and Judge Gail T. Kulick with chambers in Milaca.
Quinn served as an assistant Mille Lacs County attorney from August 2000 to January 2003. He was hired by then-county attorney Janelle P. Kendall. Quinn comes back to Mille Lacs County after serving as the chief deputy Stearns County attorney under Kendall, who is now the Stearns County attorney. In Stearns County, Quinn was responsible for handling cases related to data practices and firearms. He also trains and advises law enforcement. He has been an adjunct professor of aviation law at St. Cloud State University, and an associate attorney at the Minneapolis-based Barna, Guzy & Steffen law firm in addition to his time in Milaca in the early 2000s. He earned his B.A. from St. Cloud State University, and his J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law.
“Mr. Matthew Quinn brings diverse professional and volunteer experience to this important role,” Dayton stated Aug. 18 in a prepared release. “I thank Mr. Quinn for agreeing to serve the people of our state as District Court Judge for Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District.”
Quinn is a volunteer at Joy Christian Center and a member of the Central Minnesota Child Advocacy Center Administrative Board, Minnesota Children’s Alliance Public Policy Committee, and the Stearns County Municipal League.
