Milaca – D&L Express in Foreston sustained extensive damage Thursday, Aug. 17, when an 87-year-old driver hit the gas pedal of his vehicle instead of the brakes.

The faux pas sent the man’s car into the D&L Express building at about 7:30 p.m., causing enough damage that the store was unable to remain open until its regular 10 p.m. closing time.
The driver was not impaired, according officials with the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Department, which responded to the scene along with North Ambulance and the Foreston Fire Department. The driver did not appear to be injured.
The car hit the building a few feet from the front door, resulting in a large hole in the exterior of the building. The car sustained heavy front end damage, authorities said.
There was “substantial” damage caused to the structure, sheriff’s department officials said. That included damage to the roof, wall, ceiling, and a shelving unit. Store merchandise was also damaged in the crash.
