Matt Weippert has worked for Coborn’s about 10 years and became the assistant store director in Princeton about three weeks ago.

Matt Weippert said he’s happy to be at the Princeton Coborn’s as an assistant store director because it forwards his 10-year career with the grocery chain and puts him in places he often came for family vacations from North Dakota.
He started the job about three weeks ago after transferring from the Isanti store where he’d been for about a year. Before Isanti, Weippert had worked at a North Dakota Cash Wise liquor store chain, which is a sister company to Coborn’s.
His first grocery job came when he was age 14, at Bob’s Supervalue store in Cando, North Dakota. He said he did a variety of jobs there throughout school, and after graduation was intent on a wildlife-management career until he learned how rare it is to get a job and/or adequate pay in the industry.
Weippert’s dad also once wisely advised him to “do something that could sustain him” through life, so he stuck with grocery. Ultimately, he’d like to work as a store director and recognizes the opportunity possible at Coborn’s. The person he replaces had started the job this year but already landed an in-house promotion to store director in another location.
“I’ve been moving around, transferring and training in different departments,” he said about learning the business.
He grew up an avid walleye fisherman, and here he’s been able to try his hand at other fish such as bass. Weippert’s home is in Braham, and he said he’s not far from a few Minnesota places he remembers visiting as a kid for vacation, including area lakes and spots in the Twin Cities. He has several friends in the region and has an easy drive to North Dakota when he feels like visiting.
